Top 13 Secret Menu Fast Food Items

Burgers, Burritos and Shakes, Oh My!

This long weekend, you might find yourself taking a road trip with family and friends or simply need a quick bite while traveling from place to place. You may come across a favorite fast food chain or a new regional quick service restaurant on your travels, but there are some not-so-secret items on the menu that you should know about.

Be patient with employees as they may not know all of the secrets we are about to reveal, but these items are readily available if you are in the know. Here’s our top-thirteen list of secret fast food menu items. Tell all your friends!

1. Frito-Pie at Sonic Drive-In:

You could make this salty treat at home, but why not leave it to the professionals. If you ask your server with a pretty please on top, you can get yourself a bag full of Fritos topped with chili and shredded cheese. Want a secret menu drink to go with that? Ask for a Purple Sprite, a mixture of lemonade, Powerade, cranberry juice and Sprite.

2. Protein Burger at In-N-Out Burger:

Trying to stay away from carbs? Just order any burger at In-N-Out Protein style and instead of hamburger buns, your burger will be wrapped in lettuce. You’ll feel satisfied and also have room for secret Animal Style fries or a secret Neopolitan Milkshake, combining vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry ice cream in one creamy concoction.

3. Quesarito at Chipotle:

You probably have your Chipotle order ready and know which fillings you want. But what if instead of a flour tortilla, your burrito was surrounded by a cheese quesadilla? It takes a little longer to make this order, and you will be charged a few dollars more, but if you want even more cheesy goodness with your meal, you won’t be disappointed. Who doesn’t like more cheese? Unless you’re lactose intolerant, then we totally understand.

4. Strawberry Lemonade Tea at Starbucks:

Sometimes, you don’t always want coffee at Starbucks and this ice blended beverage with a black tea base is just the flavor boost your (summer) needs.

5. Pizza Sub at Subway:

It used to be on the regular menu, and though it’s been phased out, that doesn’t mean you can’t order it just the same! Ask for pepperoni, marinara sauce, cheese and whichever other toppings you so choose, have the Sub toasted, and you’re all set to enjoy a hot and toasty pizza sandwich.

6. Meat Mountain at Arby’s:

Arby does boast that they “Have the Meats”, but if one meat is not enough to satisfy, the Meat Mountain sandwich has a sampling of every meat that Arby’s has on their menu. Two chicken tenders, bacon, roast turkey, ham, roast beef, corned beef, Angus steak, brisket, topped with two slices of cheese are what you’ll get. No guide is necessary to conquer this mountain, but we do recommend having an antacid on hand just in case. Visit our site at to see if we have any offers on stomach aids or antacids.

7. Root Beer Float at Chick-Fil-A:

They can make this yummy drink for you! They might not be thrilled to do it, but the customer is always right. They can add ice cream from the Icedream Cone or Milkshakes and add it to Root Beer for a fun, old fashioned treat. Though what frozen treat could compete with their Frosted Coffee which is on the regular menu.

8. Burger Bowl at Five Guys:

Five Guys Burgers is all about letting patrons customize their meal any way they’d like, but maybe you’re not a fan of burger buns. Ask for the Burger Bowl and get all the elements of your favorite burger in a tin without the extra carbs! It’s one of the few items there that requires a fork and knife and is a keto-diet friendly meal.

9. Grilled Cheese at Shake Shack:

If the Meat Mountain is not one you’d like to climb, check out this meatless option at Shake Shack. A grilled cheese sandwich. The gooey cheese is melted between their sweet potato bun and you can ask for all the trimmings. It’s simple, it’s easy, it’s available at any Shake Shack even if they don’t advertise it.

10. The Barnyard Burger at Wendy’s:

If a Wendy’s employee has not heard of the Barnyard Burger, here’s how to ask for it. Order the Asiago Chicken Club and ask them to add a beef patty to the sandwich. You’ll have a meat trifecta hot and ready to eat in no time. No visit to a farm necessary.

11. Apple Pie Smoothie at Jamba Juice:

This item is so secret, we couldn’t tell you how the magical smoothie is created. What we can tell you is that the apple pie smoothie is a dessert that you can maybe feel good about? Kinda? Sorta? Jamba Juice also has smoothies based on your favorite candies like the Pink Starburst Smoothie, Reese’s Pieces Smoothie, and Gummi Bears Smoothie. There’s fruit in there somewhere so it should count towards your five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Right? We’ll go with that.

12. Frings at Burger King:

To be or not to be? As iconic a question as French Fries or Onion Rings? Who could choose between these two? Now, you don’t have to. Just order Frings at Burger King and they will give you a order of half fries and half onion rings. You’ll never have to make such a difficult choice again. Well, you will probably, but not about which crispy treat you’d rather eat.

13. Mashed Potatoes on Everything at KFC:

Side Dishes really bring a meal together, but what if you want your side dish front and center? KFC’s mashed potatoes can be added to any KFC entrée. That’s right, this spud’s for you. Want to try the Crispy Colonel Sandwich with creamy mashed potatoes on top? It can be done! If you’re brave and so inclined, add those taters at your leisure.
